Pisa/Cinque Terre!

I am back in Minnesota now, but I thought I would go back and explain a little bit more about my trip. I have an abundance of internet now, unlike when I was in Europe, so I can take my time and really tell some good stories.

I first visited the Leaning Tower of Pisa. It was just like I thought it was going to be! Very CROOKED! I didn't get a chance to go up in the tower. Apparently, you need reservations, which I did not have. Oh, well. Check out the cool picture of me trying to hold it up!

After about an hour or so, I headed down to the Cinque Terre (Five Lands). This was definitely one of my favorite places. It is located on the western Italian Riviera (right on the ocean. Most people take a train to the Cinque Terre, but you can get there by car.

As soon as I got off the train, I was immediately hit with the scent of salty sea air. The ocean was a beautiful blue/green color and full of white waves rolling in.
The thing to do in the Cinque Terra is to go for a hike along the trails that lead from town to town. I started in Riomaggiorre and hiked all the way to the 4th town Manarolo. It was QUITE A HIKE! I felt like I was climbing the Himilayas!

All in all it was a great trip. Stay tuned for more pictures of Rome!

Roma!

Hello, my faithful readers!

I am now in Rome, Italy. THis is my final destination on my trip to Europe. I can't believe this is already the end of my trip and I will flying home to Minneapolis on Saturday. I still have a lot to see in Rome and I can't wait to visit all the places that we studied this year during Social Studies.

The past couple of days I visited two other cities in Italy. I visited Florence and then yesterday visited the Cinque Terre or Five Lands. I will be posting photos soon.

Keep commenting! I look forward to your messages.

Montmatre to Milan

Okay, I want to go back and tell you about what has been happening the past couple of days. I have now left Paris, and France all together and am writing now from Milano (Like Milano cookies)!

After spending two days in the heart of Paris, I took two days and toured around the outskirts of Paris called Montmatre. It was far less touristy and full of fun shops and places to eat. I found this one restaurant that served this delicious garlicky salad with fried potatoes on top. I ate there TWICE it was so yummy.

During the next two days I saw several important monuments.I visited the Louvre Museum and saw the Mona Lisa and the Venus Di Milo. Two very famous works of art.

On one of my many walks I came upon Notre Dame. It looked just like it does in the Hunchback of Notre Dame movie, but I was actually not as impressed as I have been with other cathedrals in Europe. It was cool to see but nothing spectacular. Outside Notre Dame I saw a British movie being filmed. I tried to take a picture but the movie producers got really mad!!

I also went to see Versaille, the Palace of Louis the XIV. I couldn't get over how ornate the ceilings were. Every single room had a theme and a new mural on the walls. Very expensive and extravagant.

On my last day in Paris, I made a trip to Giverny. This little train took me an hour outside of Paris to the town where Claude Monet did many of his paintings and lived with his wife and many children. It was a dream come true to visit, even though it was drizzling and I only got to spend a little bit of time there. Someday I would love to go back.

On Wednesday I took the train south to Chambery, which is in France but everyone in town wants to be Swiss. There are Swiss flags everywhere. That was also the first place that I saw the Alps. They were beautiful!!

I only stayed in Chambery for a few hours and then I took another train that took me to Milan. I got in really late and just wanted to find my hotel and go to sleep.

I am now in Milan! It has the most beautiful cathedral called the Duomo.I tried uploading a video but it is taking TOO long. Try looking it up online. The Duomo in Milan, Italy. Enjoy!

Day 4

Hi everybody!!! I am in Montmatre, Paris France, right now and will be leaving for Milan, Italy tomorrow. This entry will be short because the computer I'm using has a "french" keyboard, all the letters are in the wrong places, compared to American keyboards. A few things I want to comment on and will talk more about when I have a better keyboard:

1. You have to pay to use the public bathroom...weird

2. Monet's Garden was beautiful.

3. Outside of Notre Dame today, I saw a British movie being filmed...It is called "The Wall." I might be in the background.

4. I like riding trains and the metro:-)

More later

Along the way. . .

I'm sitting here listening to "Catching Fire" (The second book in the Hunger Games series) and waiting for my flight. Toronto Airport is very nice. Big open atriums and beautiful modern art sculptures all over. I took a picture of one that feels like the walls are caving in as you walk through it.

Later. . .

Apparently, two small sparrows have gotten inside the terminal and now call the terminal their nesting ground. I cover my head every time they fly over just in case. . .

I can see the jet outside the window that I will be flying in. It is HUGE! A Boeing 777. When I flew to Toronto I flew in a tiny connections plane, not much bigger than a school bus in length but my ride was surprisingly smooth. During the flight I sat next to a woman who was from Toronto. I noticed that she was reading a magazine with Glee characters on the cover. We struck up a conversation and I found out that she was a huge fan too! It was meant to be.

Some people watching highlights:

5:30 (Toronto Time) I saw a Paula Dean (from food network) look alike. Awesome.

6:06 (Toronto Time) I saw a Justin Bieber look alike...it might've even been him. He is from Canada, right?

Viva La France!

I'm here!! After two plane rides, a lay over and a bus ride from the airport, I have arrived in France! When I arrived it was 10:30 am, so the day had just begun. I thought I would be tired, but I perked right up when I knew the Eiffel Tower was just a few minutes away.

I had the bus driver drop me off right in front of L'Arc De Triomphe (The Arch of Triumph) It was HUGE. I'm coming to find that all the monuments in Paris are so much bigger than movies or postcards say they are. As I walked to my hotel, I was on the look out of the Eiffel Tower. Then I saw it, just the tip of it and I just stopped and stared. Tears came to my eyes (Not even joking). I finally got to see what I've been waiting for my whole life. I ran like the wind, across bridges, making pigeons fly up around everywhere and then there is was. The whole thing. In the afternoon, I went and climbed the Tower to the TOP!

Check out my pictures from the top.
